Discovered by a Dutch expedition on Easter Sunday 1722, Easter Island or Rapa Nui is the most isolated island on earth. Ancient inhabitants, whose origin is still subject of debate, developed an organized society, written language, exceptional building techniques and a complex culture which in many aspects continues to be shrouded in mystery. A World Heritage Site, the Rapa Nui National Park protects not only an important area of great natural beauty but also guards the archeological mysteries of the Pascuense, who continue to fascinate the world with their silent and grand guardians. Travelers who arrive in this remote land are rewarded with the sight of monumental archaeological relics and the unique energy that emanates from ceremonial sites, volcano craters, ancient quarries, and enigmatic caves.
